About the Treatment
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a type of hair treatment that is conducted by taking individual hair follicles from your skin (usually the back of your scalp) and moving them to a spot where you suffer from hair loss. This surgical procedure uses micropunches, leaving behind almost no trace of extracted follicles. This procedure has no downtime and no scarring.
Because the hairs are removed individually, an FUE hair transplant
procedure will not leave a linear scar on the back of the scalp as with FUT
surgery. Instead, the scars are
the size of a pin prick scattered throughout
the back of the scalp, that are diff
icult to detect, even when looking from a
close distance. It even allows you to wear your hear very short since the

THE Treatment
HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS
During an FUE Hair Transplant procedure, the follicular units are harvested (removed) from the back of your scalp by your surgeon, using a surgical tool the diameter of .7 to 1 mm. The cylindrical surgical instrument is selected based on the size of the hair follicles. Each follicle is excised in a coordinated manner, leaving intact hairs around each excision so it will not create areas of sparsity in your donor area.
Once the hairs have been harvested, our highly trained medical technicians examine each follicle and separate them according to how many hairs each has. Individual follicles may have one to three hairs, and we use these accordingly to create the best hairlines possible.
FUE is a harvesting, or removal technique. Your results will depend on how the hairs are placed or implanted more than how the hairs are taken out. The surgeon’s skill level and artistic ability will factor into how good and natural the results of the hair transplant will look. The doctor will individually plan and create sites in which each hair follicle will be placed in the correct direction and angle, and the hair grafts are distributed properly. This is very meticulous work and why it is so important to choose an experienced doctor with both technical and artistic abilities.
The entire treatment process will take place under local anesthetic, meaning you will not be put to sleep. Anesthetic will be re- applied throughout the procedure to keep you pain free the entire time. An oral medication will be offered to help you relax during the procedure. There should be absolutely no pain after the initial local anesthetic injections. We offer the use of ProNox nitrous oxide system to help with the initial anesthetic injections for even more comfort.

Typically, the maximum number of FUE grafts per session is around 2,000 grafts.
Slightly more can be done safely during the same day depending on your donor
area, but usually not more that 2,200 grafts. The goal is to create a natural look
both on the donor
and recipient area.
For a Norwood class 3+ male, 1,000
–
2,000 grafts will be used for one area of
coverage
–
either the front or crown. This depends on if you want to recreate the
hairline or just fill in the frontal tuft and mid
–
scalp. Usually, the frontal area is
done first since this is the most visible part of male balding. The crown can be
done in a second procedure 6 months to 1 year later if desired.
For females, the number of grafts vary depending on the degree of thinning. To
fill in thinning temples or a wide part, 1,000 to 1,500 grafts might do it. But for
full hairline lowering or diffuse scalp thinning, 2,000 grafts may be needed.

We are only doing short hair/shaved head FUE currently. For males that me and shaving the head, especially the donor area, which we will do on the morning of the procedure. For females, we will shave a window on your donor area to extract the grafts from. You can then let your hair lay over that area to conceal it until it grows out again. If you are a female that wears your hair short in the back already, then you will have to have it shaved shorter for the procedure. Please plan your procedure accordingly to fit into your schedule to allow time for your hair to grow to its desired length.
